La mitad de los embarazos que presentan sangrados durante el primer trimestre se interrumpen de forma espontánea. Las dos causas principales son el embarazo ectópico y el aborto espontáneo. Las células anormales empiezan en el tejido que normalmente se convertiría en la placenta. La placenta es el órgano que se desarrolla durante el embarazo para alimentar al feto. Es una enfermedad que se presenta de diferentes maneras, desde formas menos a más invasivas y con capacidad o no invasora, por lo tanto, el tratamiento y conducta obstétrica dependerá de la manera de la presentación de la ETG
