Este es el primer título de una nueva serie de ensayo dirigida por Josep Ramoneda. Se publicarán en ella textos mayoritariamente breves sobre temas de actualidad con espíritu combativo. En el primero, el filósofo italiano Paolo Flores d’Arcais pone en evidencia que hoy la palabra democracia corre el riesgo de no significar nada. Si pueden invocarla tanto George W. Bush como Havel, Putin, Aung San Suu Kyi o Silvio Berlusconi quiere decir que la palabra tiene hoy la misma precisión que el humo o la niebla. Sin embargo, la democracia sigue siendo hoy imprescindible, sobretodo porque los valores democráticos de libertad e igualdad son el fundamento por el que hombres y mujeres siguen luchando frente a la opresión. Pero hoy una democracia digna de este nombre es casi inencontrable. El establishment político y los poderes que con él se asocian pisotean los derechos de los ciudadanos y buscan solo sus propios intereses. De ahí la desafección creciente de los ciudadanos frente a sus políticos.
