Su obra vio la luz en 1895, pero ocho años antes, en 1887 Enrique Gaspar había publicado en España El Anacronópete, novela en la que aparece una máquina del tiempo construida de forma artesanal por don Sindulfo García. El libro narra diferentes viajes en el tiempo pasando también por importantes acontecimientos históricos. Escrita con abundantes diálogos y comicidad, posee también magníficas reflexiones de carácter cientifico-técnico. Es obra fruto de su tiempo y se puede poner a la altura de las mejores narraciones del género como las de Julio Verne o el propio Wells.
