La reconstrucción de época que se desgrana a lo largo de las 450 páginas del libro termina por presentar una historia del tango quizás menos heroica pero, en todo caso, más razonable. Binda concluye que “cuando se constriñe el tango al burdel y al arrabal, además de que no es cierto, se le está haciendo un flaco favor: se reduce su influencia y participación a un micromundo cuando en realidad el tango estaba difundido por todo Buenos Aires, y ya andaba dando vueltas por el resto del país y por el mundo. Entender eso no es quitarle méritos al tango; por el contrario, es ubicar sus reales valores”.
Gustavo Naveira, bailarín y maestro de tango, reconocido mundialmente como una de las personas que más ha investigado los secretos que se esconden en el baile del tango, destacó en la presentación del libro la sinceridad con que los autores han ido en búsqueda de la verdad: “con el genuino objetivo de entender lo que ocurrió y satisfacer esa necesidad de todos de saber cómo fue que hoy tenemos lo que tenemos”.
