Wolfgang Hildesheimer (Hamburgo, 1916 - Poschiavo, Suiza, 1991), hijo de una familia judía que emigró en 1933 a Palestina, estudió dibujo y escenografía en Londres y Tel Aviv. Volvió a Alemania en 1946 como intérprete en los juicios de Núremberg. A partir de los años 50 desarrolló paralelamente una vasta obra pictórica y literaria. A su fama como autor de teatro, narrador y novelista, crítico musical y literario, amén de traductor, se sumó la de biógrafo con Mozart (1977). Murió en Suiza, tras haber abandonado Alemania a causa del antisemitismo persistente.
